The marchers left their campsite at 7am this morning. As they walked through the Didihat market, local Indians received the marchers very warmly and wished them well on their journey home.

They walked 21 km to reach their campsite at Askote at 1pm. Representatives from Kirti Monastery in Dharamsala came to visit Shingza Rinpoche, one of the core marchers, and the others. They kindly donated money to sponsor tomorrow night’s dinner and supplied the marchers with refreshments. The marchers are extremely grateful for their generosity.

In the evening, the marchers watched the film “Devotion and Defiance” about the lack of religious freedom in Tibet. The film made the marchers all very emotional about the suffering of their brothers and sisters inside Tibet. It also strengthened their conviction to reach their homeland.

We send our sincere thank you to 2 Tibetan residents of New York: Tsering Dolma and Phurbu Dorjee.

Tsering Dolma was a teacher at TCV school before she left for the US. She is the mother of one of the members of organizing committee. Phurbu Dorjee is a former employee of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission.

Thank you for your generous support at this crucial time.

At 10am, the marchers gathered in a meeting to be updated on the discussions with the local police and authorities. This was followed by an update on the situation inside of Tibet from Tenzin Jigme, the field research officer for the International Campaign for Tibet, who was visiting the March. His briefing was from a research perspective and included the latest protests in Kardze County [Ch: Ganzi], Sichuan Province.

The marchers were deeply saddened to hear of a bus accident in the nearby town of Gangolihat, in which 20 people were killed. In the afternoon, they conducted prayers for those who died.

In the evening, the marchers watched the two documentaries about the March and the slideshow presentation about the international Tibetan uprising with photos of protests around the world and inside Tibet. They also watched the documentary “Bringing Down a Dictator”.

Our thank yous go out to four Tibetans from Berinag, Namgyal Dhondup, Dhondup Tsering, Tsering Dolma, and Pema, who generously donated bottled water to the marchers today.

Tenzin Kalden laWe would like to extend a warm thu je che to two Tibetans from New York, Mr. Gyatso and Mr. Tenzin Kalden (Ex-Regional Tibetan Youth Congress of New York and New Jersey), who have decided to sponsor the March for the next two days. Each donated US$1,300 to cover a full day’s expenses for the 360 Tibetans marching towards Tibet. The daily expenses on the March include food, fruits, water, and medicine for the Marchers, and gas for the March vehicles.

The Marchers are currently in Sheraghat, Uttarakhand, which is the last Gyatso laIndian state bordering Tibet. They have less than 200 kilometers before Tibet’s border.

All the Marchers extend their heartfelt regards to everyone who is supporting this March morally and financially. If you, a group of friends, or your organization would like to sponsor the March to Tibet for one day or would like to contribute any amount, please click here. Our return march home would not be possible without your support.
