INDIAN GOVERNMENT ORDERS ALL TIBETAN MARCHERS ARRESTED

Dharamshala - On orders from the Central Government, at around 6:30am, Indian police blocked the March to Tibet and forcibly removed all Marchers from the road at Dehra bridge, 63 kilometers from McLeod Ganj where the March started. The police first detained Tenzin Tsundue, a high profile Tibetan activist, carrying him away as he shouted “Bhoe Gyalo, Victory to Tibet.” The 99 Tibetan marchers then sat down on the road, linking arms and chanting Tibetan Buddhist prayers. Indian police broke up the crowd, carrying each marcher away and loading them into 5 police buses. The marchers are now being held under house arrest in Jawalaji. INDIAN GOVERNMENT BLOCKS TIBETAN RETURN MARCH
Police Issue Restraining Order Against All Core Marchers

Dharamshala – Indian police today issued a restraining order from the central government in the names of all 100 Core Marchers participating in the Return March to Tibet. Police entered the grounds at Sarah College for Higher Tibetan Studies, where the Marchers are spending their first night on the road, and a restraining order was issued, claiming that the Core Marchers’ actions may “culminate into endangering public tranquility and breach of public peace.” The police told the Marchers they were “not to leave the territorial jurisdiction of Kangra District till further order.” The March, organized by five leading Tibetan non-governmental organisations based in India, is meant to travel through New Delhi before heading towards the Indo-Tibetan border in early April. TIBETAN EXILES LAUNCH HISTORIC MARCH TO TIBET

Dharamshala – Tibetans in exile marked the 49th anniversary of the 1959 national uprising in Tibet with the launch of a historic journey homeward today. The March to Tibet commenced from Dharamshala, the exile home of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and seat of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile. This initiative, organized by five leading Tibetan non-governmental organisations based in India and launched less than five months before China is set to host the summer Olympics, is aimed at both fighting the Chinese occupation of Tibet and reinvigorating the Tibetan freedom movement. TIBETANS LAUNCH HISTORIC MOVEMENT AHEAD OF BEIJING OLYMPICS
Global Uprising to Include Exiles’ March to Tibet

New Delhi - Five leading Tibetan organizations announced today the launch of the “Tibetan People’s Uprising Movement”, a new coordinated Tibetan resistance effort in the lead up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The Games will take place only months before the 50th anniversary of the 1959 Tibetan National Uprising against China’s invasion of Tibet. The movement’s organizers are calling on Tibetans worldwide to join protests during the Beijing Olympics and support a return march of exile Tibetans to their homeland. (more…)
