More Tibetans join the March to Tibet as the March gets closer to Tibet:
48 new Tibetan marchers joined the March at Nainital
Nainital - 313 Marchers left today on the March to Tibet at 7 am from Nainital in Uttarkhand State after receiving more orientation on Non-Violent action for two days. The March will make its first day halt at Kainchi and will head towards Almora.
“As we get closer to the Tibet border, the Marchers are reinvigorated and more determined than ever to cross into Tibet and join our brothers and sisters to unitedly protest China’s brutal Occupation of Tibet” said Tsewang Rigzin, President of Tibetan Youth Congress. (more…)

Tibetan NGOs Resume March to Tibet: 250 Tibetans continue March homeward after participating in Nonviolent Direct Actions in New Delhi
New Delhi, India - The March to Tibet will resume at 6am tomorrow from Majnu ka Tilla, New Delhi. The 200 Marchers, who embarked on the journey from Dharamshala, were joined by 50 more exiled-Tibetans from all over India. The 250 Marchers are headed home to Tibet via Nainital in Uttranchal State. Dharamshala - The Tibetan People’s Uprising Movement organized a day long programme in protest against the Beijing’s proposed plan to take their torch into Tibet in its attempt to legitimize its Human Rights violations and illegal Occupation of Tibet.
The day long programme started with hoisting of prayer flags in the morning followed by a protest rally from Mcleod Ganj to Lower Dharamshala at 1 p.m. and Candle light vigil in the evening. The organizers also did a petition signing which would then be send to President Jacques Rogge, International Olympic Committee. Hundreds of Tibetans turned up to participate in all the activities. New Delhi - 4 Tibet activists displayed a banner reading “No Olympic Torch Through Tibet” in front of the India Gate amidst tight security a week before China’s torch relay passes through India that is expected to be welcomed by thousands of exiled Tibetans from all parts of India. New Delhi – Tibetans and Indian supporters in New Delhi will participate in a Global Day of Action for Tibet on March 31st, when the Olympic Torch is set to arrive in Beijing. Along with protests, vigils, and prayer ceremonies intended to highlight the suffering of the Tibetan people under China’s current crackdown, the world’s fastest-growing online petition– calling for China to hold talks with the Dalai Lama–will be presented to Chinese government representatives and decision-makers in more than 80 cities in 27 countries. Tibetan NGOs Focus Efforts to Demand Immediate Halt to China’s crackdown in Tibet; Temporarily pause March to Tibet
Dharamshala – The five largest Tibetan non-governmental organizations (NGOs) today denounced China’s military crackdown in Tibet and called for an immediate end to the killing and international intervention. In a majority decision, the Organizing Committee of the March to Tibet temporarily paused the March in order to focus on the emergency response to the crackdown inside Tibet. They joined the Tibetan government in exile in demanding the immediate and unconditional release of all Tibetans arrested in connection to the protests, medical aid for those injured and for unhindered media access to all Tibetan areas. The March, which had reached Roper in Punjab, 38kms from Chandigarh, will continue to Delhi where the participants will join in a public outreach campaign meant to build pressure on the Chinese leadership to end the crackdown. Appeal for international intervention, release of detained Tibetan marchers in India
Dharamshala - As China’s so-called “surrender” deadline for Tibetan protesters draws nearer, five Tibetan non-governmental organizations held a press briefing today to condemn the violent crackdown inside Tibet and appeal for international intervention. As the Organizing Committee for the March to Tibet, they also appealed to the Indian government to release the 101 marchers held in detention since last Thursday.

TIBETANS RESUME PEACEFUL MARCH TO TIBET: In wake of China’s brutal crackdown inside Tibet, 44 marchers defy Indian government protest ban on Tibetans
Dehra, India – A day after the Chinese government’s violent siege in Lhasa, a second wave of Tibetan exiles defied Indian government orders by resuming their March to Tibet this morning. While 101 Tibetan marchers remain under judicial detention, a second group of 44 Tibetans set out just before 10:00am from Dehra, the same location where the first group was arrested on Thursday.

Sources from Tibet are reporting up to 100 and possibly more Tibetans killed in Lhasa yesterday, while in other parts of Tibet protest marches continued.

Last night, the 99 Core Marchers and 2 organizers of the March to Tibet were sentenced to 14 days in judicial custody after appearing before the Senior Divisional Magistrate in Dehra. As the heads of the Organizing Committee of the Tibetan People’s Uprising Movement and March to Tibet, we condemn this decision by the Indian authorities to treat these peaceful Tibetan marchers as criminals. TIBETAN MARCHERS SENTENCED TO 14 DAYS IN DETENTION
Refuse to sign “no protest” bond
Dharamshala - 99 Tibetan marchers and 2 organizers, arrested early this morning while on a protest March to Tibet. They were sentenced to 14 days in judicial custody after appearing before the Senior Division Magistrate in Dehra. The protesters refused to sign a bond saying that they will not participate in any further protest activities for the next 6 months. They will now be held under house arrest in Yatri Niwas, a government run guest house at Jwalamukhi some 53 kilometers from Dharamsala. Indian police have set up checkpoints on the roads leaving Dharamsala and are reportedly checking all buses for any Tibetan protesters that may be trying to leave the area. Some buses have even been turned around. (more…)
